Default Insult to Injury

Wow... 928's are far from forgiving hobbies. I spent nine hours today working on various 928-related projects...

- repairing the ignition switch.
- ignition switch works, but the entire dash is dead... again

- fixing a fuel leak [for the second time]...
- fixed the original leak... now it leaks twice as bad from a different location

- removing the studs from a block [that will hopefully become a more reliable engine]
- 7 studs are not playing nice. I'm a big SOB and they're not budging... [this after 7 days of constant attention with penetrating agent]

...I need a drink

walk away, re-group, change attitude that its a hobby and it is what it is and will take as long as it takes.... Come one back and have some fun.

That's the crux of it for me, it started as a hobby....had to find a new one. But I actually enjoyed working on mine the past couple of days. Felt new to me again.

That's a very healthy advice .

One more thing, better try to fix them one at the time, to avoid this kind of psychological impact if 2-3 things go wrong roughly at the same time.

Yup... great start to the year I suppose.

I'll get the work done. I was just hoping to actually drive it to our monthly breakfast tomorrow..... maybe next month.

We have all been there at some point. Nothing worse than "thinking" you are going to take it for a drive and end up underneith it for 7 days.

John, that is precisely why you need more than one 928. Yesterday, I drove the GTS. Today, I drove the 89. Tomorrow, I am driving the Jalapeno to the GTG. I have one for you. I'm not sure what I'll do when I sell the Jalapeno, the 89 and the 88. No really, I'll just drive the stepson and the GTS and work on the Schwartz.

What penetrating formula did you use ? There is a thread on rennlist that one of the studs broke (the last one) and the block got junked, so be careful. When that person got a new block, it was suggested by someone to use a mixture of acetone and automatic transmission fluid. When he did that the studs came loose as easy as drinking a glass of water. Its a complete engine rebuilt thread so it should be easy to find.

Dude... if I had the room, I would be all over it. I would love to have another one!

Namas, I was using PB-Blaster. I'm going to try again tomorrow afternoon when it warms up a bit.

PB blaster is not going to do anything for the studs. Go find out on rennlist how to make an Acetone and AT-fluid mixture and try that. Its not hard to snap a stud.

negative.... disposal of that mixture is too difficult and I'm not storing it in the house with little one's around. I have other methods here that I haven't tried.

John, if you come in the morning, I've got an extra can of Kroil you can use. It tested just a notch below what Ali is talking about. But better than PB.
