Hans,

I am still looking at a 4th grind somewhere between a GT+ and the B1, And I will offer the full race of .460" lift 233 duration @.050"
And I will also get all the exhaust specs posted on those grinds too.

As to the computer simulated results. I have gotten some help with that as we discussed via email. But really to see the real world type of gains I would look at what cams etc are doing for the ford mod guys to get a good idea.

Hey Terry, et al.

The deposit is at the cam guy and the process is rolling.

I have just opened up a shop (just around the corner from my house) and have been swamped with doing a standalone EFI conversion. I will be looking into the valve springs and figuring out what the best option will be. However I am thinking that having new springs made locally will end up being the cheapest route.

I will be posting more of an update next week.

PS Terry, hows that surfing coming.....

Ok Guys,

Today is the last day to be able to get in on the buy in price!

So if you have been on the fence now is your chance!

Bump

Not that I'm in a rush but given that my lack of motivation currentl;y means that 1 day jobs take weeks I need some kind of deadline to know when I have to get the engine out (and have finished all the other jobs prior) ready for it's rebuild and new cams.

These are specs for '03/'04 Cobra cams from Crower: 222 degrees of both intake and exhaust duration at .050 along with .475 lift.

Must have missed the last request for an update.

I just went and saw the cam guy the other day.
Unfortunatly the factory has not given us an ETA yet.
As I noted previously they got a $6 mil contract from CAT to build a run of cams.
This delayed us slightly, and then a large order was placed for Cummins too.

This is the unfortunate part of being a small order (50 sets), most places wont even touch you unless you are getting 200+ sets.

They also ran into one other issue, and that is they were trying to get away with making just 2 castings for all 4 cams, but they ran into a problem with that and ended up having to make 4 individual castings.

I have been assured that the moment we get an ETA I will know myself too. As I am as anxious as the rest of you!

Am I too late to get in for a set? I'd like to have something close to the Crower Cobra cams I referenced as I'm supercharged.

Hey Rick,

You are not too late.

As to your grind, I would not recommend a grind like that, nor can we do that grind I am afraid.

The largest lift we will be doing is .460" lift. Past that you may run into coil binding and possible interference with the head. As well with 222 deg of duration @ .050" and .475" lift you are going to be running a really pointy cam which will lead to the need for super heavy springs to avoid valve float, as well as it will wear faster.

The cams I am making have a LSA of 114 deg. This means that you can run more duration with less overlap, better for boost, and driveability. It also raises the peak torque area.
Running with a large LSA like this will give us a tick less peak torque over say a 110 LSA. But the peak power will be the same. However as stated it makes it so you can run bigger cams with more driveability.

The cam profile you are requesting of 222 and .475" lift is practically the same as the stock Porsche 924 cam. It is 220 and .470". These tend to wear at the nose drastically and have a point to them like a rats nose.

I will be doing a set in a twin turbo and will probably be running a B1 grind.
That has 230 intake duration, and 228 exhaust duration, with an LSA of 114 deg this gives us only 1 deg of overlap which is bugger all. By cutting down the exhaust duration by 2 deg you would eliminate all overlap.
As well for a 4V head you really do not need as much lift as you do with a 2V head.
I would put money on the fact that a cam with 230 duration with .440" lift intake, and 228 duration with .430" lift exhaust will make more power than a cam with 222 duration and .475" lift.

You also need to look at the flow numbers, sure a cam that has .475" lift might flow another say 2% over .440" lift. But the cam with .440" running a longer duration will flow a longer time at peak flow therefor allowing more mixture into the engine.

Thanks Colin,
I have MY '85 so the cams in it are pretty good, but the ones you're having made should be better and the price is great.

While 85/86/GT cams are the best that came factory, they are still very mild cams!
There is tons left on the table IMO from a good set of cams.
