Sweet! Can't wait for a review...doing it yourself? Isn't it harder on a Mk I car?

I am very excited...

Will provide same. I have always found mine a bit light in the front end in transtions and long sweepers....

As for self-install, I think so. In know on a C4 that it is a bit more complex, but I would feel a bit sheepish if I could not do it myself.

I'm looking forward to hearing about that as well. I've gone back and forth considering an X73 suspension upgrade for the C4S.

Fergus, do you drive your 996 every day, or is it your toy? I drive the C4S every day, and that has certainly factored into my thoughts here...

Good question... It is a driver... I don't drive it daily as some of the drivers around here are down right scary, especially when the snow falls. As the nation's capital, we get all kinds, including those whose main experience is Beijing and Lagos.... It's almost comical. As such, I am a bit more conservative in the winter (ever seen a Nigerian diplomat in the snow - that's more than comical) and when the asphalt heaving is bad in the spring. I put about 12K miles on the car last year and will do more this year.

Dennis, tell you what, when I am unemployed this summer (starting 24 June), I will drive to Colorado and you can sample the car... and then you can decide.

It is in Canada... waiting to clear customs... I think I will need to take a few days off to install... Great excuse for vacation time...

So I have unpacked and inspected it... Very nice.

I have to compliment Gert at Carnewal. Superb vendor - best communication, awesome price, and very well packed and shipped. Carnewal has jumped to the #1 vendor on my list.

The goodies themselves (including struts, springs, MO30 sway bars, bushings and an engine protection plate).

Next phase to find a lift to put this on to do the project. Will also sound proof the rear wheel wells with Dynamat to see if I can eliminate some of the wheel drone.

That would be an overwhelming project for me. It'll probably take Fergus a couple of hours!

Thanks Jake, but I think that you have radically overestimated my skill... More like a couple of hours a day for a week or two...

Thumbs up

It's installed.... and an improvement! The rear shocks were absolutely finished and the fronts not far behind.

Initial perspective:
  • Better than expected ride quality (on really crappy early spring roads) and significantly improved damping. I would say it is a bit harder ride, but not nearly as bad as some had reported.
  • improved aesthetics - the car no longer looks like a 4x4

Sounds cool...I'd like to see some pics of the new stance when you get a chance. Any problems with the install?

As soon as it is not dirty and with the 18" summer wheels and not 17" winters.

None.... I ended having my indie do it. I was all set (car was up on the stands) but then work and work travel got in the way. This is the only weekend I am home between now and the end of May.

Frankly I am a bit disappointed with myself, but looking at the priorities it made more sense to have it subcontracted (One weekend consulting gig more than pays for the indie's time).
