What Oil Should I Use?
I'm a n00b and need some information on oil? Is synthetic better? What about Mobil 1? What is everybody here using?

I'll play...
I just put Shell Rotella T 15w-40 in my car. After a long discussion with my mechanic, we decided that using a dyno HDEO and changing it every 3000 miles is the way to go. How's the Brad Penn treating you? James |

Can't complain from Brad Penn yet. No leaks, no funny sounds. I'll send a sample to Blackstone once I change it over the winter and see what they say...

Cool Ilko,
When you get your results back would you be willing to post them in the UOA thread I started: http://forums.rennlist.com/rennforum...s-results.html It would be interesting to compare your Brad Penn results with the Castrol results you posted about 8 months ago. I'll do the same on my next oil change and we'll see how the shell oil is doing. Hope your results come back clean, James |

On a serious note, I just changed the oil last weekend with Brad Penn 20W-50 again. Sent the sample to Blackstone yesterday and will get an email from them most likely on Friday. I'll post it up then.

I was looking at the owner's manual for one of the 356s I have owned, and the factory specifically calls for straight 30wt oil. It is good enough for the factory, so that is what I'm using in my 911s. They obviously don't like synthetics because they never even mentioned them!

My Porsche tractor manual said the same thing.

I looked all around trying to find a Porsche tractor. Thoses things are hard to find! Ended up settling on a '57 TO35 Ferguson instead

Elf 5w40 here for the time being. On a very good recommendation.

I have reconsidered my position on what oil I will use going forward. My plan is to sell my car that has a completely dry engine and find a car that leaks like a sieve. Then I will have an automatic oil changer and it won't matter what oil i use as it won't be in the engine all that long. No more dealing with that bothersome dipstick, etc. Just drive the car, add a quart...drive the car, add a quart. Done.

I "know of" 2 full cases of real Castrol 30wt. Beaner. How much would a case of that stuff be worth?
