keyles entry help
My keyless entry doesnt work. instead of going to the stealer. I have some questions:
1. When you press the button. does the alarm light on the dash do anything? 2. If you have the key in the ignition but car off, and you press the keyfob button. Does the light in #1 flash? 3. Does anything special happen when you take the key out of the ignition? Lights dim, radio shuts off right away, anything? (trying to test the switch in the ignition that tells the car the key is in the ignition) Thanks, good answers here will help me a lot.

1) Yes. The red dash light should blink rapidly while the button is pressed.
2) Yes. I tried it with the door open and the horn also honked, indicating that there's a "fault" somewhere (open door). 3) Yes. At a minimum, the "puddle" lights on the lower inside part of the doors illuminate.

Thanks jake.. Can you give me more detail on #3.
For example.. if you are in the car and you just sit there till everything fades to black and then you pull the key.. You are saying that the puddle lights then re-light? And on number 2, you had your key in the ignition and it still locked the car?

My 996 flashes a message on the display that says something like "remove ignition key" if I turn the engine off and then leave the key in.

I get zip.. Zippo.. Nada.. No lights no matter what I have going on.... (the keyfob light light lights but no dash light....) So if I want it fixed I guess it has to go to the dealer.. Hmmmmmm.. Not one with in 100 Miles.. and I am not in a hurry to spend 300-700 to fix it. I never lock it anyway

Do you have two remotes? Do they both behave the same way?
Have you tried the battery trick--inserting it backwards to "reset" the key fob?

Also, has the car sat for over a week? Mine switches off if I don't use it for a week and I have to use the key to open the door.
Just throwing stuff out there, Kyle. I don't have a local dealer, either.

Ha, if that's what you're calling my posts, you're welcome. I'll keep thinking about your problem. Feels like we're forgetting something...

I dunno... I cant even get a light to light.. So I dunno.. and at some point someone was chasing something up under the dash. I found a wire pulled off the clutch that was preventing my Cruise from working.. So hmmmmm. and this wire was yanked out I had to solder it back on the connector. So your typical PO butcher was under there at some point.
