Of course, Gyro is correct - the so-called - joke has been around for over 30 years. Or -for just about as long as Porsche made air/oil cooled rear engine cars under their crest.
I found it quite interesting that when touring the new Porsche Museum about 6 months ago, the recorded description of ONE of the cars on display, (which is one of those listed by Gyro) ended with the comment: "thus, ended the production of the 9xx, the finest automobile ever built". I hadn't believed an official at Porsche would ever allow that statement about a front engined water cooled Porsche!!! But, of course it WAS the favored car of Porsche management for their daily transportation during it's production run. Gary Knox |

Johnny, the 993s are great cars but so are the 996s and 997s. What are you wanting to use the car for--a daily driver, a weekend cruiser, a track toy? That's probably the first question you need to ask yourself. We like answering questions if you need help!

what cracks me up is.. From what i have heard... More 996+ units have been sold than any other 911 sub model. The aircooled guys seem to think they owned porsche and drove the market.. But sadly the AC DIE HARDS were a very small blip on the radar. I have NEVER had any avg joe come up to me and say "oh that ones water cooled" I normally just hear oooo's and ahhhh's. In fact today i was doing A minor delivery for work at a restaurant and a smokin hottie walked all the way across teh restaurant parking lot to come look in side.... Damn this wedding ring!

Didn't Porsche establish themselves with 40 years of aircooled sports cars? I will say one thing...at least your engine's in the right spot.

How about Porsche "evolved" to water cooled? There was a few transition years but eventually they figured out. For the transition years there were upgrades that can be done to make the engine more bomb proof. <Upgrade Thread Here>.
