I would imagine that magnetic anything would superior to vinyl. It'll never shrink, would be resistant to road grit and grime, and you could easily remove it to touch up any deficiencies. From my perspective, the only thing to worry about it some jerk teenager stealing them in a parking lot somewhere.

Well,

I didn't touch the engine today. But I did get the 968 mirrors rewired and mounted up on the car. I guess that's progress.

Maybe this weekend, work will start on the block.....

Yes he does! I'm getting excited, I just need to find the time to start putting the car together. Maybe I need to start a thread to help modivate me.

Question Time for more decisions Flex-fuel???

Okay getting back to decision making. Ordered the Link G4 Extreme from Dave CEP.

He got me thinking about E85. Of course, I'd need new injectors. My 83 lb. / hr. Siemens will get me nowhere. So I was thinking 160 lb/hr low impedance Bosch. But then I realized the 044 Bosch fuel pump I have is rated for 220 lb / hr at 5 bar. Hmmm what would it be at 4 bar? Is it even enough for the E10?

Then won't I want the strongest spark possible with E85, tons of fuel and maybe more boost? This is starting to feel like another slippery slope.

What would y'all do? This is what I have already:
1987 951 freshly painted Grand Prix White.
KW Variant 3 suspension 968 castor blocks
Big Reds up front stock brakes on the rear 928 proportioning valve
Cobra Misano seats
Lindsey racing Stage II intercooler
968 block 104.0 bore
New 88mm stroke, std./std., knife-edged, cross-drilled, micro-polished, nitrided crank, 8 lbs. removed, 1/8” radius journals and rod oil holes modified by Custom Crankshaft Repair
New Carillo Racing Rods std. length, magnefluxed and measured for length and straightness
Fresh ’89 944 2.7L two valve head; chambers cc’d, flow matched, mild porting and O-ringed, new turbo exhaust valves, valves backcut and new pressure relief valve
Fresh valve job with racing valve springs
Raceware Head Studs, Washers and Nuts
Milledge Race cam – custom grind with .500 lift and 114 lobe separation
Custom baffled oil pan for road racing
New Oil pick-up tube, support modified & magnefluxed
I.J. windage tray with Teflon crank scraper
944 turbo oil filter / thermostat housing for use with external oil cooler, Canton oil filter
New Main Bearings
New Rod Bearings
Blueprinted oil pump
Intake Manifold opened to match intake ports, flow matched, extrude honed and ceramic coated
SFR fuel rail and fuel lines, fuel filter and Bosch 044 pump.
Custom double-boxed Mahle motorsport pistons ~8.7:1 compression

Coming shortly from Dave McGrath CEP:
Garrett/TiAL GT35 with TiAL stainless v-band housing; turbo mount and associated oil lines and turbo coolant adapters
TiAL MV-S 38mm wastegate
TiAL QR recirc valve
Nissan Quest alternator with CEP bracket
Custom headers, downpipe, wastegate tie in et cetera Full 3" exhaust

Oh and Dave is making me a larger throttle body too.

I have a 968 transmission with a Guard Transmission LSD.

So what do y'all think? Is it time to draw the line and say no more, get 'er done? Or do I add the flex-fuel sensor and bigger injectors and another fuel pump, and so on?

Great list and looks somewhat familiar.
I guess the only thing I'd suggest is going for the dry sump system in place of the custom baffled pan, but if the b/p is like the one I got through Dave then it's also very good. I'm moving to his D/s to get the ultimate safety for the motor running on slicks so it depends on what you're intended use for your car is?

Be interested to see how you go with 8:7.1 c/r? Wonder what sort of psi you will be able to run?

Run it the way it is and add for E85 later.
I don't know where the flex fuel sender goes or how involved the installation is, but a pump and injectors can be changed in an afternoon (at a lazy pace). I guess the only kicker would be tuning.

Fuel flex sendor will probably sit on the fuel return line.
It might be quite a complex or time consuming process to tune for differing % of ethanol in the mix.

Default Progressing again

Made some progress on my 951 again.

Getting things put together on my new block.

Got the new alternator and turbo mounted. Have the pistons in and the head and cam tower on.

The Link G4 Extreme and its harness are here.

Dave McGrath got me my new throttle body. Now I need to get the plate welded onto the intake.

Then I need my headers, crossover, down pipe, Wastegate, recirc valve, waste gate tie-in. Hint, hint Dave.

Default Oh and I did get the Martini stripes

This is what they are supposed to look like. I am waiting to finish the mechanical work before I put them on.

Where are you getting that Martini kit?

EDIT: Just found the listing.

Looks like you're getting them from the same seller I did. Just a quick word of caution and other folks on here that have seen my car in person can attest to this: The vinyl shrinks over time. I don't think it matters that my car has been garaged almost the entire time the stripes have been on, there is now about a 1/8" gap in between each color. When I emailed the seller to see if this was normal, he told me that the vinyl is designed to last 5-7 years outside before requiring replacement. I've had it on the car for approximately 3 years and I don't think it will make it another year before I have to replace it.

But that kit does look enticing!

Default The old engine is out!

Click the image to open in full size.

I found that the old power harness was toast. In the engine fire prior to my ownership the insulation all melted and it was replaced with tape and shrink wrap. I have ordered a new set from JOKA.

Dave McGrath says my headers will be on their way soon. (This week maybe Dave?)

Maybe I'll have a running car this year????

Default The engine is in and how do I fit these pipes and filter

I guess I was getting a little punchy with where to put the filter.

Click the image to open in full size.

It is just that with an over 3" throttle body pipe and a 4" intake on the turbo, where does everything go???

Click the image to open in full size.

I can't figure out how Derek (DDP) did the intake on Waqqas' car unless there are no headlights on the car. I have the Deutsch Nine GTS headlight kit and there is no room for a filter on a 4" pipe.

I just ordered 4 50mm Hella projector lights from rallylights.com

http://www.rallylights.com/detail.aspx?ID=1795

And the corresponding high beams. I think these will allow me to move the lights forward in the box and open up more space.

Looking at George D's car: it looks as though his intake pipe is 3.25 or 3.5"

I will fit these pipes and the filter in somewhere.

Then I will be ready when Dave (CEP) (evil 944T) sends my exhaust and coil paks.

Oh and Darwin that is your old brake booster heat shield. It looks good, no?

I want to be done. I want to tune and drive....

Oh I forgot to mention. I installed the flex fuel sensor on the return line right behind the passenger side front wheel. Sticking with the 83 lb. / hr. injectors for now, but as someone observed that can easily be changed later.

I wouldn't get too crazy with that flex fuel sensor. That's much more complicated than people realize to setup correctly.

As far as the intake is concerned, you're correct, no headlights on Waqqas' car. It's super tight in that area with headlights. The only other way I could say you could run a 4 incher is if you cut out that sheet metal and run a 90 down below the frame rail. I'm not sure if that'll work though.
