Default Cayman as long distance cruiser/dd?

Thinking about getting one to use as a company car... I drive cross country on a regular basis and the Chevys I have been driving ('08 Impala LTZ and a '08 Chevy Colorado Z-71) are killing me, as I have significnat neck and back problems for a previous accident.

Any comments or suggestions?

Any cushy sports sedan would be better than a cayman for long distance drives, if comfort is a serious concern. A 911 would be better than a cayman for long distance too. More comfortable seats and the engine isn't right behind you. I like the cayman as an around town sportscar though.

Get a 928. They were designed for cruising. I drove a Prelude to OH from NYC, the next trip was in an '85. No comparison after 10 hours on the road. A GTS is noticably smoother around the edges than the '85.

I drove our 06 CaymanS from Colorado to Michigan - could easily have done it in one stint except that I started well after noon. So the car can be used for the long drives - and it has plenty of luggage space.

However, it isn't great as a working car because of the ambient noise (engine, tires, etc) which make it hard to talk on a cell phone in a professional manner. And being a low car could make driving in bad weather (rain) that much harder given all the tall vehicles throwing spray, etc around.

So while you could do it, I think I'd lean toward a quieter sedan - maybe a diesel given the mileage and use?

Update... bought a 2009 Mini Cooper S and love it so far. I've had it one month and put 8,000 miles on it, very comfortable and works well for what I need.

The Porsches will maintain their "toy" status.

A 928 blows them all away with long distance driving.
