Very impressive julian , would you explain the function of the power brake system ? is there a big gain in brake performance ?do the advatages of this kind of setup justie the extra cost? why do use those adapters on the front callipers ?

I'm thinking about building an RSR version of the 968 turbo myself ,your's is a great example of how it should be done!!!!

Thanks for the comments.
The benefit of the hydroboost is the space it gives to allow the strut towers to be triangulated. There's not a lot of difference in hydraulic vs vacuum boost otherwise. The adapters allow 15" rotors on the front.

This will probably be the last 2010 post, but I wanted to show the car on four wheels. I had to use the shop for a little maintenance on my wife's car, and moved the 968 around on its future road rubber.

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas: we got a couple inches of snow the day after these were taken. Happy New Year!

Man this thing looks awesome! By "road rubber" do you mean you will be driving this on the street occasionally?

C'mon, I'm trying to make this a "serious" race car! Road (racing) rubber!

I've made some progress--let me see if I can get some photos up later this week.
Interesting editorial in Excellence this month about what happens to project cars--some never get finished, some get sold and finished by someone else, some get finished but the car doesn't get driven (I guess that means raced in my circumstances). But, the author finished his project, and still drives his car. That's the view I hold for my project!

Sorry for the delay--I live in Alabama and, as you probably know, the last several days have been changed by the presence of so many tornados and so much destruction. I and my family are fine, but the most severe EF5 storm went just fifteen miles north of us.

I thought (since I had cleaned it up) you might like to see the inside of my shop--it's a 20 x 24 ft building just right for a racecar!!

I cut a hole in the floor and recessed a mount for a scissors lift:

So the lift looks like this down:

And this part way up. I can walk with my head leaned down under the car at full height, and usually sit on a stool when working under the car:

I put in some Lista cabinets, and used semi-trailer oak flooring to make the top:

I've got the car as a roller now with brakes and suspension installed. Next is to complete the wiring, put the hatch Lexan in, and then we'll see about building a motor.

The best part about building a car yourself is that you can leave the project alone for a little while if you want. The worst part is it seems to take forever to complete the car!!

Okay, here's my long-promised update.
I sort of stalled on the car, so haven't completed the rear hatch, front wiring, etc. But I did start on the engine, and here are some shots.

The clutch comes from Tilton and is a 3 plate carbon/carbon 7.25" arrangement, with a bolt on starter ring. No sensor provisions, because I plan to put that on the crank snout.

Flywheel:

Mounted on the crankshaft:

Rods are Carrillo's with SPS bolts: I used these in my previous motor and was well pleased, now reworked and ready to install:

And progress on the short block showing the crank in, Raceware studs, and the rods and pistons in place:

So, I have been working, and I'll try to post more photos as things come along. Thanks!

I do love the Listas! It really helps to keep the parts and tools organized. But, you know, you can never have enough storage space!

I didn't realize two months have gone by without some sort of update. I've been working on some plumbing and wiring. The dashboard wiring is coming along, and I'll get some photos up in a bit. But I have some of the oil cooler and thermostat.
Some years ago I obtained a Troutman thermostat, which uses the 911 Behr element to route the hot oil to the cooler (and cool oil back to the engine). So, the photos show the cooler mounted (it's an Earls unit) along with the plumbing to the thermostat.
