Default New Mini Oil Changes

Hi Guys,

I've got 14k miles and my car is still calling for another 4500 miles before the oil change. I actually did it at 7500 and think I'll do it again. 18k seems like way to many miles for one oil change. I also noticed that around 7000 miles on the oil the gas mileage starts to drop.

Has anyone else noticed this?

I'm not a MINI owner, but I did stay at a Holiday inn express last night...

so... I'll voice my thoughts... yeah, 18K does seem like a ton. gas mileage, I have no idea. I'll ask my friend.....

I have not noticed that on my 02, it got it's first (recommended) oil change at 13K (!!). No noticeable gas mileage diff, but I was not looking real hard. I'm due for my 3rd change soon, (43K) and I'll check before and after. Thanks for pointing it out!

It's kinda the same thing with BMW's (and I have an '08 MINI as well). Since they're paying for the oil changes they set the bar pretty far out there. I'm not one for changing every 3K miles (like the old days with dinosaur oil) but 10 to 15 K miles is just beyond my comfort level. Changed the oil in my new 535xi touring at 5K and will do the same with the MINI now at 3K.

Just my devalued $0.02 worth.

I agree. Going to do the first oil change between 2.5 and 3K in the Clubman.

Here's an example... VW just changed their approach in 2009 from 4 years / 50k warranty to 3/36 but threw in 'free' basic maintenance. Which is an oil change every 10k. So they get out of the last and most costly year of warranty for 3 oil changes.

Just like Audi says 'lifetime' transmission fluid. Do you trust that enough to gamble a $10K transmission?

Most in the local MINI club here in MI. agree that 12k to 20k mi's is way too long.
I have been doing my '08 MCS at ~6k, just did my second oil change about three week ago. Bought the oil and filter from the dealer, just so there is no warranty issues
