Default Clunking sound when coming to a stop

My '87 951 started making a "clunk" sound when I come to a stop. It is obvious something loose or worn that moves during stopping. This sounds like it's coming from the left front of the engine compartment. I'm open for suggestions on what to check tonight when I crawl under the Blue Beast.
Thanks

I would look at the suspension and wheel area first before opening the hood. Although it could be a strut mount loose
