Default GM Alternator Installation

I removed the old Valeo alternator, and mounted the new GM CS130. Went pretty smooth, for me the hardest part was installing the three 5/16" spacer washers, behind the power steering pump. It was diffucult to hold the alternator, insert the top mounting bolt, and place the shim washers between ther bolt and the alternator. Solved this issue by using super glue to hold the washers in place, while locating the alternator, and inserting the bolt.

With the new alternator installed, I noticed that although the original belt (35") was fairly tight; but because of the length on the smaller diameter alternator, it hit the power steering pump when snug. I decided that a (34") belt, one inch smaller, would leave the tension adjustment in the middle of the adjustment range, for better tension control.

Stopped the install for a day, need to get a shorted belt tomorrow to complete the project.

Looks like a nice piece of equipment.

Reminds me of struggling to get the PS belt on because the alternator won't let it move in enough. You had the other case of PS being in the way of the alternator tightening.

Because I wanted to keep all the old parts, I did take the time to make a new tension bolt. I could have cut down the original bolt, but once modified, it would not fit the original alternator. I used some 3/4" stock to make one to fit the new alternator. Made it a lot easier to tesion the belt, and also provided a way to secure the old cable bracket.
