Currently using a Hana EL cart while the Lyra is on vacation. Pretty amazing sound for <$500. Highly recommended

Picked up more vinyl Saturday. Spent a good deal of Sunday running the ultrasonic cleaner. Made a noticeable difference on most, but there is definitely some poorly mastered albums in my collection. Ordered some Photo-Flo and TergiKleen to see if they work better than the Spin-Clean washer fluid I've been using.

Is it me, or does most colored and picture albums sound worse than standard black vinyl? I think it must be in my head.

Not in your head. While there are exceptions this is most often true

Ran across a nice little product called Stylus Timer that helps keep track of how much time your cartridge has been used. Fairly priced and well designed http://www.stylustimer.com

Interesting. I wasn't sure how anyone kept track on how many hours they had on their cartridge. Did you get your Lyra back?

One of my new albums is "gold" (more of a pastel yellow/beige) and it sounds fantastic. Zero noise and it hasn't even been run through the washer yet. I think it's a recent re-release limited edition. It's a weird one though - probably not what most people would listen to: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083XNTQZM

No Lyra yet but Hana is good substitute. I think most people just estimated. For example I play 3 LPs a night 5 nights a week and take a swag at a running total

I do have a couple of clear vinyl LPs that are good. Richard Thompson and Beck both on Bongload Records

I haven't bought or listened to any for some time. The stand arrived damaged and took a while to get sorted. As they always do, freight company denied claim but the builder made another one which arrived unscathed yesterday. Media room is a disaster and I still need to get in the attic to run coax. The plan is to clean out the room tomorrow, but it remains to be seen.

Finally got around to moving the turntable. I used Belden 1505A coax, but I'm not sure I'm happy with it. Reaching out to Blue Jeans to get their input. I think the issue is I ended up terminating it with Canare BNC connectors, then used Canare male RCA adapters. I had found compression male RCA connectors, but I couldn't get them to work right.

How good are built-in phono preamps? I'm looking at the Rega Aria MK3. My receiver is a Denon AVR-X6200W. I don't know how good the built-in preamp is (because I have nothing to compare it to) and I'd like to be ready when the time comes to upgrade to MC.

I ordered the preamp last night. Also went ahead and ordered a 40' set of LC-1 low capacitance interconnects from Blue Jeans. I had asked about using 1694A, but there wasn't going to be any improvements over 1505A at this distance. I'm pretty sure I'd see an improvement if I were to re-terminate with Canare RCAPs, but at the time I needed female RCA connectors and I couldn't find good male-to-male adapters. I probably should have just ordered the cable and connectors and made it myself, but I'm kind of over it at the moment.

I'm going back and forth between the Ania Pro and Apheta 3. They have a trade-up program and I can get $300 off the Ania Pro or $500 off the Apheta 3. I will say that I am not disappointed with the Exact 2 MM and don't plan on upgrading until it wears out. It's a fun cartridge with Grunge, Ska Punk, Alternative and Electronica. If I had a complaint (other than it being yellow), it would be with mono recordings.

I keep thinking about buying a mono cartridge and an arm wand for it since switching takes maybe 30 seconds and no adjustments

Are you using an automatic tonearm lifter like Tru-Lift?
