Default Back in the Game

I haven't posted much about my car over here, it's been in storage since I moved last year. I was planning to ship it out here to CA in September, but some stuff changed and I will be shipping it out here sooner.

I have been using my Acura for track events out here and can't wait to get the 951 out on the track. Here's a picture from before I moved. More to come...

Are you registering it in CA? If so, good luck!

Eventually I'm going to have to. I know, it's going to suck.

Dude, make sure you check on the impact of your roll cage on the CA registration.. IIRC you have a full cage in there right?

Good call. I didn't think about that. Yeah, it's a full cage. I'll have to ask around at the track. There are guys out here with full cages in registered cars, so there must be some way to make it happen. Keep your laws off my car!

Looks great! I love the wheel color. It matches your car color very well!

I don't know that the cage will cause you any trouble, I'd focus my worry on emissions.

It's crazy out there. I've had friends who were transferred to CA. They will fail you for just about anything. Here's what a few of the fails that my friends have had: DOT compliant stainless steel brake lines, aftermarket bypass valve that functions exactly as the factory one did, aftermarket cat-back. I also know people who have passed without a problem with similar mods. Some of the inspectors just get a hair in their ass.

But it's getting worse out there, not better. They changed the catalytic converter laws in 2009. You can no longer install an aftermarket cat based on engine size and GVW. They HAVE to have an ARB-EO number and it has to match what they say is legal. They will fail you for no ARB-EO number or if it isn't the right code for your car. So instead of being able to buy a $100 high-flow universal cat, you now have to buy a $500 "approved" universal cat.

Ask around. There are enthusiast friendly inspection stations. But if you get pulled over and the cop wants to inspect, he can yank your chain too.

Thanks man. The color combo is similar to Paul's(Diver44) car Lil except his car looks much nicer and is much more interesting. Honestly though, it was the passenger's side shot of your car in the desert that made me decide on the cup IIs. I think I still have that picture saved on my laptop.

Emissions is the thing that really scares me. Not so much the exhaust test, I am going to have a tune specifically for that. I'm scared of the visual inspection. It's just like Curt said, some people will be failed for the slightest modification, then you see cars pass that have so many aftermarket bling parts you have to wear a welding mask to open the hood. I'm going to have to check into mod-friendly inspection stations and I plan to do an unofficial pre-test that they offer to see if I will pass.

It won't be the end of the world if I can't register the car, it is primarily for track use.

That's awesome! I gotta ask tho, which one was it? I took plenty down in 29 Palms while I was there.
