Default radio question

Hey folks,

my 95 came with the "digital stereo package" which included an Alpine 7087 receiver and a box in the drivers side armrest that says Nokia and the buttons light up when you push them - beyond that, I really can't tell that does anything.

my question is can I replace the head unit without any ill effects from the Nokia?

thanks in advance!

Jim

That sounds like a distinctly aftermarket installation. Do you know what the Nokia does? You might have to trace the lines to figure this out.

the option is on my window sticker, so its a factory install, and no I have no idea what it does. I have a manual for the Alpine, but not the Nokia unit. the Alpine is simply listed as "am/fm cd player" for $299.99 on the window sticker. My father-in-law bought the car new, so I know it came this way. thanks

I believe that is the M686 DIGITAL SOUND package or M680 DSP system. Check your option sticker and see if you see either one of these codes there.

From looking at the wiring schematics here is the route

Radio to amp to speaker. The Digital sound controller connects to the AMP separately.

So the answer is yes you can replace the headunit without any issue.

And the amp is under right seat. Marked Nokia, if I remember correctly.
