911 brake light switches
How often should I expect my brake light switches to go bad? My originals went bad after just a fiew months of owning the car. The first ones I installed have now gone bad after just over a year. The car is mint under the hood so It isn't corrosion or loose fuse. Do the switches just go bad that quick?

That seems odd to me. I replaced mine a few years ago in hopes of the brake lights coming on quicker. Didn't do much for that BTW.

I replaced mine with a new m/c 3 or more years ago. Lots of hard braking, no problems.
Yours shouldn't go that quick...

I did the job in 45 minutes this time. I went down and purchased a nice new 22mm socket and 22mm open end and was done in what I figured was record time. I've got lights right away now. It's a $7.00 part. What do you expect???

Well, personally, I'd expect to find out why I was going thru so many switches....

The more I think about it I don't think I had good switches when I purchased the car 'cause from day one I got crap from other drivers but didn't know why. I'm guessing it was brake lights.
So, I replaced them and will now check them every time I back her out of the shed. I do remember the brake pad warning light coming on for a few minutes about a month ago. That could be a clue....could be a short, but no blown fuse. If I did have new switches or at least good switches when I purchased the car then I'm sure I do have a problem in the car. |
