Default VR6 1.8T or TDI

I'm looking for a daily driver to replace my Miata and am kind of looking at MK4 golfs and Jetta's. Does anybody recommend one engine choice over another?

Those TDI's are stout, not to mention very good gas mileage.

Are the TDI's pretty reliable? Are there any known issues?

I have a 1.8t for sale
05 Silver, 78k

In my book turbo anything > non turbo.

TDI seems to be a pretty good choice but only if you want the Golf/Jetta. If you went with a GTI you'd be looking at 1.8t or VR6.

I've already got a Miata. I'm looking for something with a back seat.

Well, another Miata would get you four seats total. Is that close enough?

If that doesn't work, I vote VR6, unless it's going to be taking a lot of miles, then I vote TDI.

My R32 has the 3.2 VR6 in it and I like it pretty well but I miss having a turbo car after trading in my STI to get the R32. I'm kind of leaning towards the 1.8t if I go with another VW.

I bought my daughter a VR6 Jetta & both the dealer & a local VW shop said they liked that engine over the other choices. So far its been a good car for her, fast as lighting. My son said he thought it was every bit as fast if not faster than a 3.0 BMW Z4 we had.
