I don't mind a 996 next to my 993!...(but only in a WB version)
I used to be a hater but not anymore. After all, we are from same family, No? I mean, you have some that's better looking than the other but that's life. Last edited by f8vr993; 09-20-2008 at 02:27 PM. |

I think it's a joke that will continually go on...until people realize that the 997 and newer are ALSO water-pumpers.

I was at an official Porsche Concours event many years ago. I overheard (he was speaking in very loud voice) a Speedster owner demanding that the officials ban and remove a 968 that had been entered in the same event as his Speedster, because it was not a "real Porsche." I have seen many a water-pumper owner isolated at Porsche events, told to park away from the air-cooled brigade. It may seem to some to be a "joke" but sadly to many it's not, they are serious. However, the best "joke" of all is that had Studebaker not backed out at the last minute, the second Porsche model in production after the 356 would have been a 4-door, front water-cooled engine, sedan. It's possible the 356 would have been the first and last air-cooled Porsche. However, it didn't work out that way and air-cooled in one model range only, lasted from 1963 to 1998 until it to switched to water-cooled engines, and it's been that way for the past 10 plus years. I think many are just going to have to get used it because water-cooled and 911 are joined together at the hip and air-cooled is now an historical perspective. Ciao, Gyro. |
