The only thing that would prevent me from getting the 19" wheels would be the NYC roads... too afraid I'd bend them or blow a tire with the lower profiles.

You know, after looking at all these photos, 996's are really beautiful Porsches. In some ways, I like the style more than the 997's. They are truly wonderful, classic machines. All in all, we're a pretty fortunate bunch.

The 2002+ with the Turbo lights definitely make them unique from the Boxster.

I fell in love with the 2004 C4S cabriolet when I saw it in on the cover of Christophorus magazine, it was stunning to me.

The 993 C4s and Turbo are also gorgeous! I really want one.

Yeah, I am with you. I told someone recently if I had it to do over I would have gone to 18s. Every 19" 996 + 997 owner in NYC bends wheels (although the first time i really noticeably bent a wheel was in LA on Angeles Crest, and that rockslide I tried dodging through was a doozy).

People often think forged wheels will help, but I've see a bunch of guys crack them here esp uptown FDR/Harlem River Drive, and anyway the part of the wheel that seems to bend the most on these cars is the inside lip (not the side with the centers and spokes), something to do with the camber and width I guess.

Agreed - I went 19s and I do love the look and feel on a good road, but cringe when I drive around NYC. I can feel the bumps all the way up my spine into my back teeth , and I only go from the Holland tunnel to Wall street.
