After 5 Years... my day of reckoning
My DME Relay went, leaving me without power, 0 tach, half-rumbling, half-coasting down the street, miles from home.
I have kept a spare DME Relay, red relay, black relay, etc. in the glove box for years now. So, I confidently reach inside... NOTHING! OMG / WTF!!! Then I remember, when I packed up tools, spare parts, etc, for the long trip from RI to the TN/NC line (Deals Gap) & back, I put everything in the front trunk in a nice ziploc baggie. Scrounge through the trunk, sure enough, there's my emergency kit. Saved! Well, IF that was the problem, anyway. Go to pull the socket out of the relay, and the entire guts of the old relay come out instead of unplugging. Whoops. Stick in the new relay, turn the key, vroom! So, tonight, I am proof-positive, CARRY A SPARE DME RELAY! That is all...
