Another trip to the ER on 5/22. Massive infection that ripped my scar open and drained when I was sleeping. Felt better after it happened though, so I'm more hopeful this time.
Anyway - finally got the new speakers upstairs. Still need to do final placement and get the sound panels installed. I ended up ordering a couple sets of the Blue Jeans interconnects instead of building them - just didn't have it in me to do them myself. Room is a disaster, but I'm chipping away at it when I feel up to it. |

Speakers placed, carpet spikes installed. Started looking for vinyl again and I have to learn to stay off Amazon. Richard Thompson Rumor and Sigh is $65 and Neil Young Live at the Cellar Door is $105. I have them both on my list to look for next time I go to the record store. Good news is CDs are cheap!
I'm not very happy where the Salamander stand ended up, but I'm limited where I can put it. Thinking about taking over the guest bedroom which is slightly larger, but I really don't feel like moving everything again. |

Thanks! I placed a pre-order for it, so hopefully it'll be repressed soon.
Started on acoustical treatments this weekend. Removed the closet bifold door and hung an Audiomute sound absorption sheet over the opening. Not sure I like the look, but the bifold door hit the FR speaker and needed to be removed. Sound panel layout is established, but they're not hung yet. |

acousticsounds.com doesn’t do back orders on those titles waiting for repress but you can sign up for them to notify you when available. Neil at Massey Hall is also excellent but not quite as intimate

Any SACD recommendations? I don't currently have any and I'm not sure if I should venture into that realm or stay with vinyl.

I have a mishmash of them. If you like and can find The Rolling Stones SACDs put out years ago those are nice. The RCA Living Stereo releases are well done like the Reiner Pictures. Mingus Ah Um, Zombies greatest hits, Roxy Music Avalon Patricia Barber Cafe Blue are all good

Cellar Door arrived today. Thought it would be a good way to unwind tonight, but [/I]After the Gold Rush[/I] skips. Verified the turntable was level and the tonearm tracking weight was correct. Already sent an email to MusicDirect to see what they say. Playing Earth, Wind and Fire tonight instead. It's a new album too, no issues playing it.
Marantz sent me a SACD set - Explorations in Sound. Haven't listened to both discs yet, but I'm liking disc 1. Acoustical treatments are done. Huge difference and well worth the effort. |

Added some Philips Hue Signe indirect lighting. Light from just the ceiling fan is too harsh and I'm going to be adding an Audiomute isolé panel over the window. Bought two floor and two desk lamps. Still playing around with placement.

What do you think of Roon? I have around 12,000 songs in my library, but the majority are MP3. I also have a subscription to Tidal HiFi. I've been looking at AudFree Tidal music converter, but I don't know that I want to maintain a library any more. Roon is kind of expensive just to use for Tidal. I played around with the free trial for a couple hours only to find out my Marantz isn't Roon Ready (only Roon tested).
Still waiting for the Cellar Door replacement. Not impressed with Music Direct's customer service. |

MD’s CS has definitely gone downhill. I like Roon a lot. I bought the perpetual license and feel like I got my money’s worth. If you need a DAC just buy one of the little Audioquest ones. Excellent value for very good performance

I can use the Marantz for the DAC, but I don't have a streaming device. Kind of disappointed about the 30n since it can play from network shares. Reading a lot of comments online of many people being upset with D/M and their decision not to be Roon Ready. Lots of confusion with the Roon Tested label, myself included.
If I go Roon, it'll be with the lifetime license. It's $700 now though. |

Paid $500 for lifetime. Using a Mac Mini to run Roon outputting to DAC. You could do that or the little Intel NUC and probably be in business
