Default Can a 356 be daily driver ?

Does anyone drive their 356 regularly ?

I am considering a coupe as an every other day car.

Or are these now sunday drivers ?

I used to drive a Speedster as a DD in San Diego back in the 80's. Today, it would probably get stolen, but I wouldn't hesitate to drive a coupe semi-regularly. I would probably put a hidden kill switch on it and be careful where I parked. If it's a little ratty, more the better.

They will require regular valve and point adjustment like any other vintage 60s car. Also more frequent oil changes, and if it has the older expander type brakes, it will need brake adjustment from time to time(not a 356 specialist).

A few years ago I used a 1973 Matra as a DD. It did fine, but you need to keep up the regular mx that comes with things from the 60s

So, did you decide to give it a try? For some years, about 7 years ago, I drove my '63 Coupe on nice, sunny days. The '61 Roadster was too nice (Parade Concours winner) and eventually went to a collector in VA.

Tinkered with mine today. Last time I was going to drive it to the office the driver's seat belt (retractable) failed and I was scared to drive it. Replaced it today, went for a nice drive, to nowhere in particular, then realized I was heading in the direction of my 356 mechanic and wondered if subsconsciously I was worried about a potential failure and thus heading in his direction! These old cars can be quirky ... but I wouldn't rule out using it as a DD if your work is close to home. But I think you better have a back up!

Last time I drove it to the office, one headlight didn't work on the way home. I think it's probably just a loose fuse, need to check it. Like I said, these things are quirky and seem to require constant tinkering. But they are a special joy!
