Oil leak Trace

Have had an oil drip for awhile that I have not been able to locate. When I did the GM alternator conversion, and had the belly pans off, I left them off. With the pans off, it should be easier time wise to see where the drip is coming from. I thought at first that it was coming from the oil filter/oil sending unit area. But after a good cleaning with engine spray, it didn't look like that was where the drip was located.
The hard part for me, is not having a good space under the car to look around, I use a "Quick Lift" type unit that raises the car about 18". The drip itself is usually about a couple of table spoons or more, and that amount is only after the car has been run for quit awhile, and parked. Sometimes there is none at all. Have not noticed any big change in the oil level. So far it suspect the drivers side, middle area of the engine.
I decided to purchase a UV leak trace kit, to make the job easier.

[EMAIL="https://www.amazon.com/Alltrade-648416-Vehicle-Leak-Detection/dp/B0028QGU8K"] Was about $20 on Amazon.

Also picked up some dye at the same time.
I put the tracer in the engine, and then the local weather went to hell. Been too busy with the snow to get back to the car.

The left side of the engine has the connections to the oiling system: oil filter, pressure sensor, pressure valves and oil cooler hoses. A likely place for a few drips.

I'm going to go on a limb and suggest a look at the oil cooler hoses where the rubber hose connects to the end. Another good possibility is the filter.

Oil Leak

Glenn,
Thanks for the tips. Hope to get a break in the weather, and I will check the areas you mentioned. Have a good one !!!

What Glen said. Another culprit often overlooked is bad cam seals, at the top part of the engine. They leak, and the leak runs down the back of the engine and drips. Sometimes the front cam seals drip too. Take a look at those. Also, oil pan leaks, as the very lightly torqued bolts vibrate loose over time. These are very low torque spec bolts, but you can gently snug them. You can access most, but a couple around the oil filter are hard to get to.

Forgot to update the oil leak issue. As suggested it turned out to be a few loose oil pan bolts. The oil was dripping around the bolt threads. The four loose bolts were in various locations, not in a row. Some were hard to get at with the alternator and oil filter in place. Managed to get them all with a combination of a small wrench, and a 1/8" drive socket with a swivel and long extension.
