Hello everyone,

it is with great pleasure that...

Hello everyone,

it is with great pleasure that I want to show you guys a new product that my partner Hans and I have been working on.
This one is about our new upgrade for the window switches. It is a natural complement to both our HVAC head upgrade and also to our center console upgrade, including the carputer. These projects are discussed elsewhere in another thread.

Hans and I have created a modern, lighted panel to replace the factory manual window and sunroof switches.
Our new switch panel uses state of the art, lifetime, magnetic contact switches and state of the art illumination.
These are truly state-of-the art guts. Neither of us were willing to compromise any part of construction for these, and while they seem simple, it is the result of several months of work. The illumination system is passive, and very durable. It shouldn't break or fail under normal use (it is susceptible to a blow from a sharp object - like if you stabbed the panel with a screw driver). There are no transformers or EL membranes used, so no buzzing will be introduced into the cabin or into radio transmission. The switches used are not common, or even commonly available. We have had to go through extensive drawing revisions to earn the opportunity to use them. Again, these units are designed to not fail, and have been tested into the millions of operations without failure. In short, our panels are truly lifetime switches, and will not need to be replaced if cared for properly.

The color of the illumination can be changed by simply replacing the LED. The light source for the whole panel is a single LED and the light distribution is a layer of laminated fiber optic.

Panels will come standard with factory configuration that mimics the factory layout. But you will have the choice to replace some of the functions with others, depending on your particular situation. For instance, those of you who have deleted the rear wiper and would instead prefer a button to open the hatch, can easily do so.

The finishes offered will match those that we offer for the center console upgrade and for those with a stock setup, we have a black textured face that matches the Porsche black parts perfectly.
The panels themselves are designed to fit in the stock location.

The following pictures are of a rough setup I made to show a few of the face textures that will be offered and 2 colors: white and blue.Red, Amber and green are also available.

Please note that the light leaking around the panel is due to the setup. The switch panels themselves will be a laminate of different layers, with the fiber optic layer, encased in the middle. So there will be no light bleed through in the finished product.

Here you have 3 separate finishes, with 2 different color lights, in both daylight setting and evening (these are fairly high resulution, so just click on them to get the full size):

It is important to note that these switches DO NOT operate the windows directly. They are a very low-current signal type switch, which again improves the lifetime of the switch contacts. Our switch panels have been designed to interface with DEI products 530T and 529T. They could also be used in a "budget" configuration with several relays instead. We will be providing a plug-and-play harness for connection with the DEI modules, and also installation/circuit notes if you choose to use relays or a different method of controlling the windows. I think the advantages of using the DEI units are very apparent, and assume that most people will want to go in that direction.

Using the DEI units gives you 1-touch operation for any year 928. It also gives you the option to tie the windows in with an alarm system or key-less entry system. You can have the windows roll up when the alarm is armed or when it is set-off. You can also add a vent position, which will crack the windows to allow circulation. Another reason we chose to use DEI over making our own module is that they are cheap, readily available, and tested in tens of thousands of alarm installations across the world for almost the last decade. They are very reliable, and most electronics professionals and even mechanics are familiar with their operation and should be able to quickly diagnose any problems you may have with them. They are a stock item at most electronics shops, so if you are ever on a road trip, and for some reason a unit fails, you should have to drive very far to get an emergency replacement if necessary.

I also want to add to the list of features that not only does the owner have a choice of finish and artwork, plus the number and placement of the functions, he also can change the color of the illumination by simply swapping LEDs.

I can also add that if for any reason, one decides that he/she needs a different finish: for example, you bought the black texture panel and now it does not match your new carbon fiber steering wheel, you can send the panel back, and for a small fee, I will be happy to replace the top finish for you.
Same situation if down the road you find yourself wanting another function.
Since the switches themselves are so sturdy and trouble free, as is the light distribution system, all that is left are the cosmetic bits, and we can customize that any way you want.

The panel of 8 switches, with a basic choice of black texture, carbon fiber and brushed aluminum, customized to your specifications, will come in at around $164.00
Considering that a single factory window switch is $60.00, I think that's not too bad. Even when adding the cost of the DEI module, the total cost is still below the 4 factory switch cost and the new panel offers so much more in terms of reliability, functions and look.

We will be offering a discount for pre-orders, with payment required about 3 to 4 weeks prior to the panels being ready to ship. Some of these components require a large first order and an important setup fee.

So those of you who are seriously interested, please either post here, PM or email me directly: champagn@stx.rr.com.

We do need to gauge if this is something people really want.

Thank you very much for your time. Either Hans or I will stand by to answer any question.

Paul

Do you have any 928 stuff that's just taking space, or that you could do without? Offer it here, and forward the money you receive (sans shipping) to Project Rennwish.

Benefit for Buyer: Gets parts at good price
Benefit for Seller: Gets tax write-off
Benefit for Rennwish: Gets cash

Sounds like a win-win-win situation - no?

I'll start:

One pair of 928 Flag Mirrors, complete with glass and motors. Slate grey metallic with exclusive Los Angeles rock chips (they were replaced with GTS mirrors before I took the car home). However, I learned that when they were taken off, the mechanics broke some of the gears that move the mirrors. Any offer considered.

A left (drivers) side 928 S4 tail light. Good but not perfect lens (no chips, but a few small scratches). Housing has a 1" crack right above the inner brake light bulb. No harness. Any reasonable offer considered (I think I paid $100 for it).

One pair of 928 Euro Side Flasher assemblies, smoked, with a few surface blemishes. New. List price for a perfect set: $98.98. Make a reasonable offer.

Thanks!

Symptoms:

If the car sits overnight or a long...

Symptoms:

If the car sits overnight or a long time during the day, it will not start. It cranks fine but will not fire. It seems to flood.

If I pull the temp II connection, it will fire right up immediately, but idle horribly for a short period.

If I fire it up, let run for 10-20 seconds, turn it off and plug the temp II back in, it will fire right up immediately again, idle high (about 1200 or so) for a few seconds and then settle into a nice, normal idle. The car runs great from then out, lots of power, good idle, etc. I can drive a long way, shut it off, and it will start right back up and run great.

If I pull the temp II and drive without it, eventually the car will run like crap at low rpm, but fine at high rpm. I can cruise at highway speed just fine, although it doesn't seem to run as good as when the temp II is plugged in. But, if I have to slow to low rpm, like at a stoplight, it runs horribly, like on 4 cylinders (88-no limp mode), no power, almost dies, idles like a big block with lots of lift in the cam. Once it gets back to a certain rpm, it runs ok again.

I replaced the temp II with no change in behavior.

I have replaced all relevant relays.

I have checked wiring to temp II and MAF, all seems ok.

I suspect, as several have suggested, the MAF is the culprit. I have not unplugged the MAF and left the temp II plugged in when it won't start, I should probably do that.

Another thing I have noticed is that, when the temp II is unplugged and it's running like crap, the fuel pump is excessively noisy and the overall voltage in the car is down, might be irrelevant.

I should have taken Hans up on his offer to borrow his MAF when I had the chance.

Thoughts? Any other things to check?

How does the vacuum connect into the cruise control on an 86.5 and how do you check to see if there are leaks??

My cruise has always had a mind of it's own, but I was told that it was probably the CC brain box since they go bad frequently. I pulled the brains and it looks as if it has already been redone before by someone else. I want to check to see if the vacuum is okay in the cruise control circuit before I start doing more to this brain box. Any suggestions??

I just bought a complete 1980 928 as a parts car....

I just bought a complete 1980 928 as a parts car. I am going to use some of the interior parts here and there, but am going to part the rest. I am told the engine and transmission are in good shape but have not been started in a while.
The car is brown with tan interior with a good set of phone dial wheels.
If you need parts, let me know. I am not real familiar with what the going prices are, so make me a reasonable offer.

I'll post some pictures when I get a chance.
