The talk - postgame recap

Posted 09-16-2008 at 11:05 PM by UDPride
Well I told my old man I was going to quit on Nov 14, which was a 60 day courtesy so they could prepare for everything.

He said he told the other co-owner of the company this afternoon and she indicated she was not that surprised. I actually think he is taking is fairly well, however he always likes to take it well early, then after time passes he turns back into his incorrigible self. So theres no promise everything stays on the up and up with this.

Dad did indicate we need to sit down and delineate duties such as around the house etc, since mom is no longer around to do it. Im fine with that. Yard work and stuff never bothered me and Im happy to do it if that affords me some of my rent. And someone WILL have to do it.

He was clear that I wanted to be home and wanted to drum up some new career on my own, preferably working for myself. Wow, he even admitted Im a pretty good writer and would find more happiness doing that which was a surprise. Still, Im not counting my chickens yet.

He suggested working part time on retainer at work by telecommuting from home so I could keep my health insurance. Im not entirely against it, but I explicitly told him Im tired of talking to customers and solving other peoples' problems. I want to start solving my own. So perhaps MINOR work from home that keeps me away from customers might be agreeable, provided its low hours and very flexible in terms of when the stuff gets done. Im going to need a lot of time to myself to clear my head from my moms passing and then get a lot of things done around the home I promised my mom would get done. Plus I need to begin a new career.

Lots to do. Lots to think about. I just want to be happy.

On another note, I cleaned up the back yard from the Ike winds this evening. We had to chainsaw a bunch of downed trees. Theres still a number of monster trees that need to be disposed of. But, it looks better than it did. And I watered all my moms flowers on the decks tonight. Her flowers were her love. I think I can see her and hear her and smell her when I water them....

That last sentence tore at my heart. I lost my mom almost 20 years ago. Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do.
